Harrison, recovering from back surgeries, responded by allowing only one hit, by Mike Moustakas, in an 11-pitch inning. He also faced Alcides Escobar, Eric Hosmer and Danny Valencia in his first time on the mound in game conditions since April 6, 2013.
“I was eager to get out there and get that feeling again,” Harrison said.
Matthew Harrison tested the back twice: breaking from the mound to cover first on Hosmer’s grounder and using a slide-step delivery on his final pitch. Harrison felt no discomfort on the plays.
“Everything feels great,” Harrison said. “The big test is how I recover [Wednesday]. I don’t expect anything changing. I feel good and expect to keep progressing.”
The tentative plan calls for Matthew Harrison to pitch again Monday. It could be in a minor league game.
